Reality star turned fashion designer Nicole Richie, in Sydney to open a new shopping complex, has praised Australian fashion as “cool” and “chic”.
The Los Angeles-based star of The Simple Life, who has her own fashion label and is a regular cover girl for fashion magazines, says Aussie labels including Sass & Bide, Forever New and Ksubi are all part of her wardrobe.
She says Australian labels are about having fun, feeling comfortable and being relaxed.
“To me it comes off as very beachy and cool and yet very chic at the same time,” says the petite Richie who’s been flown in to officially open the new multimillion-dollar MidCity Centre retail precinct.
Wearing a heavy leather jacket complete with embellished studs, Richie proved she’s lost none of her fashion edge.
She’s long fascinated the fashion world, transforming her appearance from a trashy Hollywood brat-packer into a figure of street cool since having two children with her partner, Good Charlotte’s Joel Madden.
“… I just like to have fun with fashion and I like to dress up and it really just depends on what mood I’m in …” she told her fans during Thursday’s MidCity Centre official opening.
“… fashion is something you really can have fun with and it’s something you can play with … it’s what I do and encourage other people to do the same.”
Richie will be guest of honour at the MidCity Centre’s opening night star-studded party on Thursday.
