At first she wanted to stay, but eventually, Elin knew she had to get out of the Woods.
Newly-divorced Elin Nordegren spoke out for the first time in nine months to People magazine, telling the publication she initially wanted to make the marriage work even after learning of hubby Tiger Woods’ tawdry affairs.
“I have been through the stages of disbelief and shock, to anger and ultimately grief over the loss of the family I so badly wanted for my children,” the 30-year-old mother of two told the magazine. Nordegren said she was “blindsided” by the affairs and had no idea that Woods was cheating on her with a number of party girls and porn stars. She described the past nine months as an “emotional rollercoaster,” ABC News reported. The Swedish-born model said she couldn’t sleep, lost weight and some of her hair after learning Woods was a serial cheater.
At first, she wanted the marriage to work but realized she had to terminate the relationship, especially for the sake of her children. “Initially, I thought we had a chance, and we tried really hard,” Nordegren said. “I am now going to do my very best to show them [the children] that alone and happy is better than being in a relationship where there is no trust,” she said.
Nordegren also said she never attacked Woods in November after he crashed his car outside the family’s home. “There was never any violence inside or outside our home,” she said. “The speculation that I would have used a golf club to hit him is just truly ridiculous.” The couple, which officially divorced on Monday, will share custody of their children, Sam, 3, and Charlie, 19 months.
She added that’s she is stronger because of her husband’s betrayal and will focus on her kids and getting a college degree in psychology. “My immediate plan is for the kids and me to continue to adjust to our new situation. I am going to keep taking classes, but my main focus is to try to give myself time to heal,” she said.
